Larry Starks and Joe Deuce will be performing at the Planet of the Tapes on Friday and Saturday.

Joe Deuce has been crowned Funniest Comedian in Lexington by Comedy Off Broadway (2013), Dayton’s Got Talent Champion (2015), Funniest Comic East of the Mississippi (2018), and NoHo Comedy Festival Rising Star (2019).

Shows are 8 p.m. Friday, May 21, and Saturday, May 22. Tickets are sold by the table — a three-person table is $30, a four-person table is $40 and a six-person table is $60.

Tickets for Friday’s show are available here.

Tickets for Saturday’s show are available here.

Joe has also been seen on the TV show “Laughs” on Fox and Hulu as well as “Trial By Laughter” presented by Comcast. He has performed in over 30 states, more than 100 colleges and at corporate events, theaters and comedy clubs across the nation.

Here’s a review of Deuce from the Kentucky Kernel, the University of Kentucky newspaper, from a performance at UK:

“Deuce stole the show with his jokes about Black History Month, his pokes at college kids. … His charisma on stage captured the audience’s attention throughout his 45-minute set and had them laughing the whole night.”

Larry Starks is a powerhouse comedian best known for his STARKSTV1 YouTube channel. He has earned massive popularity there for his speed roasts of various celebrities and pop culture phenomena.

All shows are 21-plus. Bring a mask or proof of vaccination.

Planet of the Tapes is the most unique bar in the Louisville area with with a Comedy Theater, Cinema Lounge and a full-service bar with movie-inspired craft cocktails such as the “Strawshank Redemption” and the “Berry and the Hendersons.”

Planet of the Tapes also offers DVD rental at affordable prices.

NY comics McNeely, Gabel light up Aloft Louisville Downtown May 27

New York comics Terry McNeely and Adam Gabel are in the midst of a tour through six states that will bring them to the Aloft Louisville Downtown for one night on May 27.

Terry, a Long Island native, is a comedian and actor. He could easily earn the title “Crass Critic to the Suburban World.” His appearances include The Daily Show and CBS’ Blue Bloods.

Adam, a Brooklyn native, has performed all over New York and is quickly gaining attention in the New York comedy scene as “The guy with the voice and the hat.” He is often compared to Steven Wright and Mitch Hedberg.

Joining them at Aloft will be guest comic Ferris Delaney.

Tickets are $15 per person or $45 for a reserved table that seats up to four and are available here.

They recently teamed up to answer five questions from Creig Ewing of Louisville Laughs:

What’s the best thing about performing comedy in New York City?

Terry McNeely

Terry McNeely: “Ugh. You don’t want to ask me that question.”

Adam Gabel: “Audiences pay a lot of money so they want good comedy. Because of that the competition is fierce, and you have to get better if you want to get stage time. The environment forces you to be the best you can be. “

You’ve started a 20-show tour with Terry McNeely. What’s the key to surviving on the road on a six-state tour?

Adam Gabel

Adam: “Not doing seven states. You’ve got to know your limits. Always leave some meat on the bone for the next time.”

Terry: “As the driver, coffee. But also saving every penny you can: cashing in free hotel nights, using old gas cards, going to coin star and grocery shopping all save on expenses. And there’s always depending on the kindness of strangers.”

What’s your favorite place you’ve ever performed comedy?

Terry: “Virginia Beach Funny Bone. First of all it’s the Funny Bone, so there’s prestige in the name. But also the audience is 50% men and 50% women, which is the perfect ratio. Also there’s a lot of diversity, which I love, because if it’s a room full of all white people everyone just gets offended.”

Adam: “The Friar’s Club in New York City. It’s such a historic building, and they don’t do a ton of shows there so it’s not easy to get a spot. I actually had two dates cancel before I did a show. Plus it’s the only comedy venue that has a decent Corned Beef Sandwich.”

What is the weirdest place you’ve had a show and how did that go?

Adam: “Every show I do is weird.”

Terry: “It’s a tie. The first was a show on a farm outside of Scranton. The stage was a hay cart with pumpkins. Surprisingly one of the most fun shows I ever did.

“Another time I did a Block Party in someone’s driveway in Long Island — 15 kids under the age of 12 sat down Indian style right in front, so I had to throw my act.

“I wound up spending 20 minutes arguing the virtues of 70’s and 80’s cartoons over their favorite shows like Dora the Explorer.

“Our guys got blown up by Dynamite and it was fun. You had to learn Spanish.”

What can the audience expect to see from you guys on May 27 at the Aloft Louisville Downtown?

Adam: “First and foremost you’re going to get a good time. Terry and I travel all over the country honing our acts, so there’s something for everyone. I like silly stuff. My material sounds like it comes from the mind of a 4-year-old, mostly because I like to sound older than I am.”

Terry: “I’m going to give you unfiltered, opinionated diatribes on everything from cats and bad grammar to participation trophies.”

5 questions with Lexington comic Mike Fields

Mike Fields is a Lexington, Ky., based comic, who was born and raised in West Virginia. Although Mike may be new to comedy, he has hit the ground running.

He is a two-time featured performer at The West Virginia Comedy festival and Cincinnati’s Brew HAHA Comedy Festival. He has also opened for America’s Got Talent’s Ryan Niemiller and Last Comic Standing’s Dale Jones.

Mike has been performing at comedy clubs, festivals and shows all over the United States. He is fast becoming one of the area’s favorites, and he’s definitely a comic you won’t want to miss.

He will be one of the comics representing Lexington in the Louisville vs. Lexington Comedy Battle on May 6 at the Aloft Louisville Downtown.

Tickets for the show are $8 each or $25 for a table that seats up to four and are available here.

Lexington comedian Mike Fields will be at Aloft Louisville Downtown May 6

Louisville Laughs: How did you get into comedy?

Mike Fields: I’ve enjoyed standup since I was a child; and I made trying standup my New Year’s resolution in 2018. I fell in love with it, and it’s been a big part of my life ever since.

2. What is the strangest place you have performed?

The strangest show I’ve done and hope I’ll ever do was in Bellafontaine, Ohio, in a bar, where the stage was next to 17-foot taxidermied giraffe. The owner had also made a cane out of the giraffe’s manhood and loved showing it off.

3. What has been your comedy highlight so far?

The biggest highlight so far is a tie; either performing at Cincinnati’s Brew Ha Ha Comedy Festival or my first club feature booking with Dale Jones at The Caravan Comedy Club. Both were great experiences!

4. You also produce shows at Pivot Brewing in Lexington. What’s the best and worst part of working with fellow comedians?

Producing shows is stressful, but the best and worst part is the same, bookings. You get to meet some great people, network and hopefully make friends in a town you’ve not done comedy in. But, it also shows you how not to act.

A lot of comics really sell them selves in strange, very brash ways. But it’s a small price to pay to book a show with comedians I respect and admire.

5. What’s something about performing standup that people don’t understand?

I don’t think people realize how much work goes in to being good at standup comedy. You put yourself through a lot, traveling, trying to figure how to make your act work and doing terrible shows just so you can get a few minutes on stage. Writing jokes is difficult, especially when you try to appeal to the widest audience possible. But it’s definitely worth all the effort.

5 1/2: Do the Lexington comics have a chance against the Louisville comics?

I’m hoping for a great show. I hope we can win, but I’m just looking forward to performing with some of my good friends from both cities.
