A couple spots remain for the 2023 Funniest Person In Louisville contest. Louisville Laughs is bringing back the competition this year with some enhancements.
The five opening-round dates are filled, and five opening-round competions are set to begin June 18 at TEN20 Craft Brewery in Butchertown.
Comics compete as amateur or semi-pro.
Semi-pros will do 7-minute sets
Amateurs will do 5-minute sets
Entry fee is $25 per comic.
The contest is open to all comics — from Louisville or not — except last year’s winner, JoJo Casillas.
Entry fees are due June 1.
Bret Sohl will be videotaping the first-round matches. Comics who want a professional video of their performance can get one from Bret for $25.
Judges include representatives from all four Louisville comedy clubs.
For the opening-round matches, we will make a promo code for every comic. It will give audience members $2 off the ticket price. For every ticket sold using your promo code, you will get $5 (limit of 5 each contestant).
So if you promote the show and five people buy tickets online using your code, you will get your $25 back.
Note: This is only good for tickets bought online in advance, not for walkup sales.
All entry fees will go to prize money for comics. For a full field of 60 comics, that will be $1,500 total. In that scenario, prize money would be:
Semi-pro winner: $700
Semi-pro runner-up: $200
Semi-pro 3rd place: $100
Amateur winner: $350
Amateur runner-up: $100
Amateur 3rd place: $50
We will have three judges for each competition plus audience vote (which counts 25%) to determine who advances.
Semifinals are Aug. 25-26 at Monnik Beer Company. Finals will be in September at a site TBA.
