Entries are now open for the Funniest Person In Louisville contest. Louisville Laughs is bringing back the competition this year with some enhancements.
The first four opening-round dates filled up, so we are adding an opening-round date Thursday, July 6, at Falls City Beer Taproom.
Comics can sign up to compete as an amateur or semi-pro.
Semi-pros will do 7-minute sets
Amateurs will do 5-minute sets
Entry fee will be $25 per comic.
The contest is open to all comics — from Louisville or not — except last year’s winner, JoJo Casillas.
Entries close June 1.
Bret Sohl will be videotaping the first-round matches. Comics who want a professional video of their performance can get one from Bret for $25.
Judges include representatives from all four Louisville comedy clubs.
For the opening-round matches, we will make a promo code for every comic. It will give audience members $2 off the ticket price. For every ticket sold using your promo code, you will get $5 (limit of 5 each contestant).
So if you promote the show and five people buy tickets online using your code, you will get your $25 back.
Note: This is only good for tickets bought online in advance, not for walkup sales.
All entry fees will go toward prize money for comics. If, for example, 40 comics sign up, that will be $1,00o total. In that scenario, prize money would be:
Semi-pro winner: $500
Amateur winner: $250
Semi-pro runner-up: $150
Amateur runner-up: $100
We will have three judges for each competition plus audience vote to determine who advances.
Opening rounds will be at TEN20 Craft Brewery in Butchertown.
Semifinals are Aug. 25-26 at Monnik Beer Company. Finals will be in September at a site TBA.
