Matt Bergman is a traveling comic, who has a Dry Bar special and has appeared on Gotham Comedy Live, Comedy Central Live and can be heard on Sirius XM.
Matt will be in Louisville to headline a show at the Aloft Louisville Downtown on Thursday, Sept. 16, before heading to Indianapolis to headline at Helium Comedy Club. Joining Matt will be Louisville favorites Jake Hovis and Hillary Boston.
Tickets to the Aloft show are $15 and are available here.
Matt took the time to answer 5 Questions from Louisville Laughs.
Louisville Laughs: Your Dry Bar Comedy special video on YouTube has dozens of comments saying how funny it is and then several asking why you don’t just shave your head. How does that feel?
Hahah. You know … I agree, actually. Oddly enough, I started buzzing my hair after the special/before the comments. I always record my sets on audio but very rarely on video, so I didn’t realize how bad it had gotten. I should’ve just worn a hat.
What was it like filming the clean comedy special in Utah?
The folks that run Dry Bar are class acts and so nice. I thought for sure it was the early stages of converting me to Mormonism, but I’ve yet to receive any pamphlets.
I’m not necessarily clean but can do clean, so I was a little reluctant back when they were 45-minute specials but once it was 20-25, I figured, “Why not get harassed about my hair?”
You studied Criminal Justice in college. Does any of that come in handy in your career as a comedian?
Not really. I mean, I know when someone could probably be arrested for public intoxication in the crowd. Other than that the degree was an excuse to not grow up for another four years
What is your advice to people starting out in comedy?
Spend times in your local club, observe, don’t be a psycho, go do other things to help your creativity. There’s a version of you in every city, so you’re not that unique.
If you’re lucky enough to get paid to travel, get out of the hotel and explore the city.
What is your comedy horror story?
I opened for the Goo Goo Dolls, who are from Buffalo and so great.
Unfortunately, it was a surprise that a comic was opening and it was 15 minutes of chatter and confusion.
Nobody booed, and they were all standing (no seats) so in my narrative I got a standing ovation!

Danny Maupin is a Louisville native who performs comedy across the country and is a co-creator of the Late Late Breakfast show.
Danny has been featured in Comedy Central’s New York Comedy Festival, Bridgetown Comedy Festival, TruTV’s High Plains Comedy Festival, The Chicago Comedy Exposition and many more.
He will be at Kaiju on Sunday for a free comedy showcase that includes Sean Smith, Reed Sedgwick, June Dempsey, Erin Dowdle, Neil Carter and host DanAlten with an open mic after.
Danny took the time to answer 5 Questions from Louisville Laughs.
Louisville Laughs:You work out of Los Angeles, Chicago and New York City. What brings you to Louisville?
Danny Maupin: This is my hometown and my lease was ending in Los Angeles during lockdown. Luckily I was able to get vaccinated shortly before that, and I decided to head back to Louisville to be with family and perform since things were open here.
But, in all honesty, that’s temporary and Sunday’s show is actually my last show in Louisville for 2021 cause I’m hitting the road later this month. Catch me while you can Kentucky!
You have been part of a lot of comedy festivals. What is the difference between agreat festival and a terrible one?
In my opinion, the standard of a great comedy festival is booking quality and diverse talent, not booking more shows than your audience can handle so audiences aren’t stretched too thin, and organizing a performers and VIP only after party every night.
We all travel from all over the country to perform, and we love meeting each other and having fun off the clock.
Your Late Late Breakfast show was called a top concept comedy show in NewYork City. Can you describe the show?
Each show features top comedians delivering their polished material while going up against a bevy of unique games and challenges designed to keep both them and the audience on their toes, providing an experience that canʼt be missed.
Pie fights, laser tag, polygraph tests — you never know! Expect anything and everything out of the ordinary, all of it held together by solid, hilarious standup comedy.
What is your comedy horror story?
Bombing with one of your comedy heroes in the audience.
